Iowa "The Citizens Caucus"
The goal of "The Citizens Caucus" partnership was to reach beyond the
typically partisan politics of Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses to
re-engage the average citizen. The partnership includes the Wisconsin
State Journal, four Iowa-based newspapers of the Lee chain, the Waterloo
Courier, the Associated Press of Iowa, KUNI Iowa Public Radio and Iowa
Public Television. Through several issues seminars, the partners aimed to
give the citizens of Iowa an opportunity to craft a non-partisan agenda
of issues to be presented to the presidential candidates. The project
culminated with the broadcast of a statewide town meeting on February
9, just three days prior to the Iowa caucuses.
