Six hundred Americans of various backgrounds and political persuasions are in Austin, Texas for what could be described as a pioneering experiment in bottom-up democracy. They are being asked to participate in four days of moderated discussions, deliberating the major issues facing the nation. The National Issues Convention could significantly change the way Americans debate the issues and select their national leadership. The weekend will feature citizens interviewing some of the presidential candidates. Reporter John Biewen of Minnesota Public Radio is on assignment for Democracy Place, USA. The Radio Station has his reports. John is also interested in what you have to say, so head on over to the Cafe where he is waiting for you to join him.
