January 4, 1996

It is time for a new voice to be heard in the political debate that will catch fire this year as the last presidential election of the 20th Century takes shape. This voice should sound familiar because it is your voice at the local coffee shop, in church, or around the kitchen table. It's been heard from time to time, but overwhelmed by the din of candidates bashing each other, and the media, all too often, emphasizing the conflict rather than the substance of the campaign. Citizen's '96, a civic journalism project, gives volume to the people's voice in a series of programs that begin airing on most PBS stations on January 5 with the Citizen's State of the Union. No politicians, just ordinary folk speaking their minds, excerpted on the Democracy Place TV Station. Tune it in.
